Know what your work is worth
Pricing my work was something I constantly questioned. For years I second guessed what to charge, whether I was covering my costs and how small changes in my process affected the final price.
With a background in accounting, I knew good pricing starts with good numbers, but most tools didn't reflect the realities of a pottery studio, so I built my own.
This is the calculator I use to price every piece I make.
Alongside the pricing calculator, I've included a Market Comparison Tool and Studio Log to help you price with confidence and keep track of your work over time.
What's included
Pottery Pricing Calculator
A browser-based pricing calculator that accounts for every cost in your process:
- Materials: clay, glazes, packaging and freight etc
- Your time: throwing, trimming, glazing and photography
- Studio costs: rent, kiln electricity, tools, equipment etc
- Your profit margin, currency and local taxes
As you update the figures, your recommended selling price updates instantly.
Market Comparison Tool
Compare your pricing against similar pieces currently for sale and see where your pricing sits within your market.
Use it as an additional reference point when making pricing decisions.
Studio Log Feature
Keep track of your pricing calculations and production details in one place.
- Record previous calculations
- Create consistency across your product range
- Build a valuable record of your work over time
Designed to be simple
A calculator that works in any browser on any device. No software, no login, no subscription.
Purchase once, use forever.
This calculator is for you if
- You make and sell pottery
- You want confidence in your pricing
- You're tired of guessing what to charge
- You want a clearer understanding of your costs
- You want an easy way to review and update your pricing
Many potters have told me they struggle to charge what their work is worth. Knowing exactly how your prices are calculated can make it easier to stand behind them.
Even small pricing adjustments can make a meaningful difference over time. For many potters, the calculator may pay for itself sooner than expected.
Whether you're a beginner or have been selling your work for years, confidence in your pricing comes from understanding the numbers behind it.
Checking your costs regularly is also good practice. Supplier prices climb, electricity costs rise, materials change, and it's easy to miss how those shifts affect what you need to charge. Running your numbers through the calculator helps keep those changes in check.
Included future updates
Any future updates and improvements are included at no extra cost.
This calculator has been thoroughly tested by potters, but as with any digital tool, occasional errors may occur. If you spot something that doesn't look right, please get in touch.
